Lage Frankfurt Ostend

Frankfurt : Ostend, 27100 inhabitants

General character: Surrounding the Zoo, the so called "Hanauer Landstraße" and the "Wittelsbacher Allee"- two of Frankfurt's main avenues - the Ostend is separated into different sections. Regarding the area close to the city center, the Ostend attracts attention through a combination of post-war buildings and remainders from the turn of the century. Still, the section around the "Sonnemannstraße" and the "Hanauer Landstraße" reveals an industrial character, which has dynamically been transformed into a location for advertisement agencies and the so-called "New Economy". Somehow neglected in recent years by both investors and the municipal authorities, this district's atmosphere experiences a lasting change through a large number of reconstructions. Tranquil side streets and nicely arranged from the period of industrial expansion in Germany buildings add up to the popularity the region around the "Parlamentsplatz".

Sights: Right at the intersection point of "Bornheim" and "Ostend" lies the extended "East" park, which serves as a popular setting for outdoor activists. Even though lacking financial support in recent years Frankfurt's zoo, located further west, remains a major attraction of Frankfurt. The so-called "Mouson"-tower represents a cultural highlight. Frankfurt's experimental liberal arts have certainly found their permanent performing halls in the former soap factory. The building itself reveals impressionistic architectural elements.

Shopping and going out: There has been no central shopping zone establishing itself in the Ostend. Single stores providing everyday essentials dominate around here. Despite some good restaurants, this quarter did not function as a primary destination to go out until a few years ago when the Eastern "Hanauer Landstraße" developed into one of Frankfurt's most demanded disco and club destination.

Infrastructure: There is a good connection to the city through the train ("S-Bahn") or the subway ("U-Bahn"). Furthermore, there is a tram ("Straßenbahn") running along the Hanauer Landstraße.
