Sachsenhausen (population 58.000) is located south of the Main river, which lies between this district and the down town area of Frankfurt. It is a very popular middle-class residential area with many fascinating Gründerzeit style buildings, half-timbered houses and pretty tree-lined streets. The area around Schweizer Strasse, the main shopping street of Sachsenhausen, with its many unique stores, cafés and restaurants, has a special urban flair.
