District Portrait:
Sachsenhausen (population 58.000) is located south of the Main river, which lies between this district and the down town area of Frankfurt. It is a very popular middle-class residential area with many fascinating Gründerzeit style buildings, half-timbered houses and pretty tree-lined streets. The area around Schweizer Strasse, the main shopping street of Sachsenhausen, with its many unique stores, cafés and restaurants, has a special urban flair. Boutiques and traditional apple wine restaurants attract many visitors. The southern part of Sachsenhausen can be described as a quieter, rather suburban neighborhood. The park-like waterfront and the many museums at the river are well worth visiting.
