The City Center and its historic quarter (population 12.000) are framed by the Anlagenring, a street which outlines where the city wall once stood. The buildings located here are very mixed in age and style. Traditional historical buildings, early postwar developments and modern apartment buildings of the last decade can all be found here. The area around the main train station, which can also be allocated to the city center, has many classical Gründerzeit style buildings.
